Cemetery Walk

African Americans of Early Grinnell Cemetery Walk - Online version!

On September 23 the Grinnell Historical Museum hosted a  Hazelwood Cemetery Walk featuring the stories of African Americans of Early Grinnell. The stories of five individuals were shared by members of the summer research group of Team Renfrow, a collaboration between Drake Community Library and Grinnell College. The stories have now been made available on the library’s Local History website.  You can listen to recordings of the five featured stories and download pdfs of the stories as well as maps to help you local the gravesites of the 32 African Americans who were residents of this town from 1854 and later.
