The Friends of Drake Community Library Annual Meeting will take place in the Caulkins Community Room on Thursday, January 16th at 7pm. Doors open at 6:30 and the program will start at 7 pm. Board members will be supplying refreshments; desserts and hot beverages.
Dr. Michael Hustedde of St. Ambrose University will deliver a presentation on Ruth Suckow. The event highlights the Ruth Suckow traveling exhibit which will be on display at the library from January 12, 2025, to February 9, 2025. The exhibit is the work of the Ruth Suckow Memorial Association, with the support of Humanities Iowa celebrating the centennial of the publication of her novel Country People. Other events include a discussion of her book at Bookin’ It, the library’s book club, on January 9th, 2025 at 7 pm. The Grinnell Highschool Thespian Troupe will also perform a reader’s theater presentation of Suckow’s short story, A Great Mollie, on Tuesday January 28, 2025 at 7 pm. Jenny Flinspach will be directing the production.
