Starting in January, a variety of technology tools are available from Drake Community Library. The new items are being promoted as Preservation Station Tech Tools. It includes items that can be used to digitize photographs and audio recordings and make them easier to preserve in a computer friendly format.
The Preservation Station Tech Tools includes a flatbed scanner that can scan photographs, slides, and negatives. There is also a document camera and a book scanner, equipment that can be used to digitize or create videos of print materials. There are also two items for working with audio recordings. A digital recorder can be used to make digital recordings, for example a conversation with a loved one, that is saved as an mp3 file. There is also a Cassette Capture device that will digitize old audiocassette recordings. A portable video projector is also available and can be used to project digital files from a computer or mobile device.
