Library Food Cupboard

Library Food Cupboard

Located in the lobby on the west side of the library. Available 8 am to 7 pm Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm on Friday, 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday.

Free pantry staples. Open to all. Stocked by volunteers three times a week. Supported by the Grinnell Food Coalition. Period products are donated by S.H.E. Counts.

Accessible Computer Station

The workstation has a desk with adjustable height and an ergonomic chair, ensuring comfort and flexibility. Additionally, there is a large-print high-contrast keyboard and four input options: a larger mouse, a touchpad, a trackball, and a touchscreen monitor. A magnifier application is included to allow those with limited vision to enlarge portions of the screen as needed. For those who may be visually impaired or have a learning disability, a screen reader has been installed on the computer. A screen reader converts text and images to speech. The monitor includes a webcam and a headset with a microphone.

IowaWorks Partnership

On the third Wednesday of each month, an IowaWorks staff member is available to assist community members with career planning from 10 am to 3 pm. Services that the career planner will provide include IowaWORKS account setup/management, 1-on-1 appointments, career planning, resume development, mock interviews, workshops, skill-based training, NCRC testing, job development, referrals to partner programs and answering unemployment questions.

Winter Clothing

Each December, community members drop winter clothing (hats, gloves, scarves, coats, and some boots) for those who need them. A range of sizes are offered for adults and children. Items are available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Poweshiek County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Free tax preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers. Electronic filing can be done by IRS certified volunteers for both federal and state returns. Individuals and families must have an income of $67,000 or less. (Excluded from the service are returns that include: farm income, rental income, contract sale of property, business operating expenses exceeding $25,000, depreciation schedules, moving expenses, debt cancellation due to bankruptcy, loss from a business, or payment in sale of digital assets.) Appointments are usually available from February through mid-March at the library. This program is supported by Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation.

Backpacks for Kids

Each August, the Grinnell Optimist Club holds a Saturday morning event to provide school-aged children with a backpack and some school supplies outside of the library. First-come first-served while supplies last.
